Are you confident that your goods and services and their component parts are based on measurements taken with correctly calibrated measuring equipment?

If your business requires the services of calibration laboratories, selecting a UKAS-accredited supplier is an essential tool for decision-making and risk management. Accreditation determines the technical competence and integrity of organisations offering conformity assessment services such as testing, certification, inspection and calibration.

Since 1984 the calibration laboratory of WIKA Calibration Technology in Irlam, Manchester has maintained UKAS (formerly BCS or NAMAS) accreditation (accreditation number 0138). This accreditation ensures the laboratory complies with ISO/IEC 17025. Thus, with WIKA, you can be sure that a calibration done under their UKAS accreditation and the generation of a calibration certificate is always carried out in compliance with legal and normative requirements and also on an internationally comparable level.

UKAS calibration

In measurement technology, calibration means determining the measuring deviation of the respective measuring instrument. In contrast to adjustment, in calibration there is no intervention with the instrument. If an indicating measuring instrument is calibrated, the measuring deviation between the measured value display and the actual value is recorded. For pressure indicating instruments, for example, the difference is determined between the indicated pressure value and the actual value.

In the ISO 9000 and the ISO / IEC 17025 family of standards, traceability to national standards is required for a UKAS calibration. With traceability, the measured value displayed (or a material measure) is compared with the respective standard for the measurement parameter.

The United Kingdom National Physical Laboratory - NPL is the highest technical authority in the UK for metrology. The NPL maintains and develops the national standards. It ensures the international comparability through cooperation with other national institutes. WIKA Calibration Technology in Irlam maintains & uses standards calibrated at the NPL and other recognized National Measurement Institutes – NMIs.

Through a  calibration, done under our UKAS accreditation, of measuring and test equipment and the traceability of measurements to national standards, reliable acquisition of process variables is ensured. A UKAS calibration, done under WIKA’s UKAS accreditation thus contributes directly to safeguarding your product quality.

For a detailed overview of our full accreditation services and scope of supply, please see schedule of accreditation.

Calibration certificate

The result of the UKAS calibration is recorded in a calibration certificate.  UKAS is a signatory to international accreditation agreements which provide for mutual recognition. This reduces the need for multiple assessments of suppliers, and as a consequence helps to reduce barriers to trade for organisations who have UKAS accreditation. We generate UKAS calibration certificates for the measurement parameters pressure & mass. We can also, through our DKD accredited laboratory in Germany our another UKAS accredited laboratory provide calibration certificates for temperature and electrical measurements.

We would be happy to generate a UKAS calibration certificate for your measuring instruments as well, please use our product return form.
